Doubles Army Rules

Each player has a separate 1,000 point roster, following the rules from the Matched Play Pitched Ba[le chart and latest FAQs and rules updates released by Games Workshop as of the 28th of June 2023. You and your partners army will form your greater team force.

Each player’s 1,000 point roster is enPrely their own and contained within their roster. The following rules apply to creaPng your individual and combined forces:

  • Each player’s army must be a different unique facPon. For example, you could not both play Stormcast Eternals.
  • Units that are ‘unique’ cannot be taken more than once per team.
  • You cannot duplicate core ba[alions in a team.
  • Each player selects a general from their 1,000 point roster to give a command trait and artefact of power as normal, but artefacts of power cannot be duplicated amongst a team.
  • You cannot duplicate universal enhancements
  • You cannot duplicate a war scroll across a team. For example, if you are running Slaves to Darkness Chaos Chosen in your roster, your teammate playing Blades of Khorne could not include Chosen as an ally in their 1,000 point roster.
  • The armies picked by each player do not have to be allowed to ally with each other, but internally each army must abide by normal ally rules. Bonus Kudos if you come up with a fun reason why your forces are fighting together!

The following will describe the way teams works with AOS rules:

  • Your team shares a pool of command points. You generate command points as normal but for the team as a whole, so for example, on battle round 1 if you have priority, your team would generate 2 CP + 1 for the general being alive.
  • Extra command points generated by an ally can be used by either member of the team. Though individual units can’t issue commands they would not normally be allowed to issue.
  • If one player has an endless spell, then all wizards on that team may use that spell provided they are able to cast it.
  • You share one grand strategy for your team.
  • You select ONE battle tactic per turn that your doubles army will attempt to complete. Battle tome specific battle tactics can only be completed by units from that player’s army.
  • At the start of each game, you will nominate one of your team’s “generals” from your roster as the general for purposes of relevant rules and battle tactics.  Both players rosters have a general, but only the one you pick each game can score battle tactics such as “This one’s mine!” for example.

Army Rosters

Please clearly indicate in your roster any enhancements, artefacts, command traits or war scroll options that apply to any units. Sub-factions are chosen as normal by each player. Your roster must remain unchanged throughout the event, unless a rule specifies you pick at the start of each game for instance.

Modelling and Painting

  • There is no painted requirement for this tournament, but models must be built and adhered to bases. Painted models are encouraged if possible to get into the spirit of things!
  • Third-party models are permi[ed so long as there is no IP infringement with Games Workshop models. Conversions and scratch-built models are more than welcome.
  • In the case of highly converted or third-party models being used, please submit images of the models to the tournament organiser prior to the day. You may not gain an advantage in game from converted models, if a model differs in size for example in a way that may net an advantage when playing, it may be disallowed from play on the day.
  • In the case of models they previously came with different base sizes, please try to use base sizes currently given in the boxed kit where possible.

Player Conduct

Players are expected to behave in a sportsman like manor. The nature of a doubles tournament is omen more casual, and the end results of gaming is to have fun at the end of the day.

Players who show disrespect to another player, attendee, tournament organiser, store staff or customers may be asked to leave the event.

Please arrive on time and be prepared with your roster, models, rules and tools. Ask your opponent’s permission before touching their belongings including their models. Do not fix game outcomes, cheat in any way or waste Pme during a game. If your opponent forgets a rule, please remind them, especially if it is to their benefit.

Quittng Policy

It is expected that players play all three rounds on the day. Games should be played out to the best of all players ability, in the case of a forfeit, the loser earns zero points and the winner will record a major victory and maximum points for their battle tactics and grand strategy for the remaining rounds.
